What a Missed Legal Call Actually Costs
PERSONAL INJURY
A driver was just rear-ended at an intersection. From the passenger seat, they search "personal injury lawyer near me" and call the first five results. Your receptionist puts them on hold for three minutes. They hang up and retain the firm that answered second.
One lost PI client = $3,000-$15,000 in contingency fees
FAMILY LAW
A woman has decided to file for divorce. It took her weeks to work up the courage to call. She dials your office and gets a rushed, impersonal greeting. She does not feel safe. She calls the next attorney on her list, and that firm gets a $5,000 retainer.
Family law clients choose based on the first 30 seconds of empathy
ESTATE PLANNING
A retired couple wants to update their will after a grandchild is born. They call your office during lunch. Nobody picks up. No callback for two days. They find another attorney who answered the phone and booked them that afternoon.
Estate planning packages = $1,500-$4,000 walked out the door
CRIMINAL DEFENSE
It is 9pm on a Friday. A parent's college-age son was just arrested. They are panicking and calling every criminal defense attorney they can find. Your phone goes to a generic voicemail. The firm with 24/7 intake gets the $10,000 retainer.
After-hours criminal defense calls = highest urgency, highest fees
Questions
What exactly happens during the mystery shop?
Our AI calls your office posing as a potential client with a scenario relevant to your practice area. For a personal injury firm, it might describe a recent car accident. For a family law firm, it might ask about filing for divorce. We grade how your staff handles the call across 6 categories and send you a detailed report with the full transcript.
Is the call confidential?
Yes. The call data, transcript, and grade report are sent only to the email you provide. We do not share your results with anyone. We do not publish firm names or scores. This is a private assessment for your internal use.
Will my receptionist or intake staff know it is a mystery shop?
No. The AI sounds like a real potential client asking realistic questions about your services. Your staff will not know they are being evaluated, which means you get an honest picture of what callers actually experience at your firm.
How fast do I get results?
Within 1 hour of payment. The call happens within minutes. Grading and report generation take a few more minutes. Your full report typically lands in your inbox within 30 minutes.
What if nobody answers or it goes to voicemail?
That is critical data in itself. If your main line goes to voicemail, you will receive an F for Answer Speed and a detailed note in the report. 67% of potential legal clients call multiple firms. If yours does not answer, the next firm gets that retainer.
Does this evaluate my answering service or virtual receptionist?
Yes. We call whatever number your potential clients call. If that routes to an answering service, a virtual receptionist, or an in-house intake team, that is exactly what gets graded. You see what your callers see.
Is this legal?
Yes. You are authorizing us to call your own firm. This is a self-shop, which is standard practice in the mystery shopping industry. The authorization checkbox on the form documents your consent. We are not recording attorney-client privileged communications since no real legal matter is discussed.
Can I use this to evaluate a competitor's firm?
Currently, Phone Grade is for your own firm only. You must be a partner, managing attorney, or office administrator authorized to evaluate the firm being called.
We already use an answering service. Why would I need this?
An answering service is only as good as its performance. Many firms assume their service is doing well because they never test it from the caller's perspective. A $29 mystery shop can reveal whether your investment is actually converting callers into consultations.
